A key player on the Oklahoma State University (OSU) baseball team has been charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Trey Whaley, 22, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving around 2:40 a.m. on January 25, and could face severe penalties including up to one year in jail, fines of up to $1,000, mandatory participation in an alcohol treatment program and a 30-day driver’s license suspension, if he is convicted of the criminal offense. BAC ABOVE OKLAHOMA’S LEGAL LIMIT

According to Oklahoma court records, Whaley was arrested by Payne County sheriff’s deputy Adam Jarvis at the intersection of 6th Street and Monroe Avenue in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Payne County sheriff’s Captain Kevin Woodward reported that Whaley was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe and was initially pulled over for not using his headlights or taillights. Jarvis then gave Whaley a breath test, which showed a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .12%, well above the legal limit of .08% in the state of Oklahoma. The 22-year-old also failed sobriety tests conducted at the scene, Woodward said. Whaley appeared in court on January 25, and was released on a personal recognizance bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 12.
