The Ford Motor Company has long been viewed by the American public as an automotive manufacturer that has provided top-quality vehicles to consumers that are safe, dependable and that perform as they should. The highest-selling model of Ford in the United States has long been the Ford F-150 pickup truck. Unfortunately there are many people who could be in need of help from Oklahoma defective products attorneys because of the announcement of a massive expansion of the Ford F-150 recall that was made recently. Below is a brief description of the Ford F-150 problem.
THE REASON FOR THE FORD F-150 RECALL
The Ford F-150 recall announcement was made last week on the heels of intense negotiations between Ford Motor Company and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or the NHTSA. The result of these negotiations was the announcement that 1.2 million additional units would be included in the original Ford F-150 recall that was announced earlier this year.
The reason for this announcement is that the air bags in the affected Ford F-150 models have shown a tendency to deploy at random times, thus creating a risk of serious injuries or worse for occupants of these vehicles who would not be expecting this to occur. It’s believed that an electrical short in the air bag system is what causes them to deploy unexpectedly. To date, the NHTSA has received more than 250 complaints from consumers regarding this problem as well as nearly 100 reports of injuries because of this Ford F-150 defect.
MODELS AFFECTED BY THE FORD F-150 RECALL
The original Ford F-150 recall was announced in February of this year, and it included approximately 150,000 units that could have had this problem. However, the expanded recall now affects more than 1.2 million additional units, and they include Ford F-150 models that were manufactured between 2004 and 2006. Ford will notify owners of this recall in the coming weeks so that owners can report to a nearby dealership for the necessary repairs.
