A Florida woman has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer of the dialysis product GranuFlo, claiming that the dry acid concentrate administered to her husband by a dialysis clinic in 2008 resulted in his death. Gloria Smith filed the wrongful death lawsuit on October 4, 2012, in federal court, alleging that Fresenius USA Inc. was aware of the risks of deadly cardiac arrest linked to its GranuFlo dialysis treatment when it first introduced the drug in 2003. Unfortunately, Smith alleges, Fresenius waited years before acknowledging the issue with its dialysis product, putting thousands of patients – including husband Leonard Smith – at risk of serious cardiac problems and death. As further attention is brought to the side effect risks associated with Fresenius’ GranuFlo dialysis product, GranuFlo attorneys across the country are investigating personal injury and wrongful death claims filed on behalf of affected patients and their families. SERIOUS RISKS LINKED TO GRANUFLO TREATMENT
In her lawsuit, Gloria Smith alleges that her husband, Leonard Smith, died from exposure to Fresenius’ dialysate, GranuFlo/NaturaLyte, while at one of the drug firm’s clinics in Florida. Fresenius operates about one-third of all dialysis centers in the United States, and is also a leading supplier of dialysis products (like GranuFlo) to non-Fresenius clinics in the U.S. and Europe. Dialysate is the fluid used during dialysis treatment that helps draw fluids and toxins out of the bloodstream in patients whose kidneys aren’t functioning properly. According to her complaint, Smith says that her husband suddenly stopped breathing while he was still hooked up to the dialyzer delivering the potentially dangerous dialysis product. Smith additionally states that “top executives” at Fresenius knew or should have known as early as 2003 that its GranuFlo and NaturaLyte products were dangerous.
GRANUFLO ATTORNEYS FOR WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIMS

According to an internal memo issued by Fresenius in November 2011, as many as 941 GranuFlo patients suffered sudden cardiac death the year prior, do to improper administration of the drug.
