A patient at an Oklahoma drug rehab center, called Narconon Arrowhead, has filed a lawsuit against the clinic, alleging medical malpractice, medical negligence and negligent supervision. According to the medical malpractice claim, the patient believes that he was prematurely weaned off his anti-psychotic and anti-opiate medications shortly after his arrival at the treatment center, which he says led to his suicide attempt in which he jumped off a balcony at the clinic. The patient survived the fall, but suffered multiple injuries that required him to be hospitalized for four weeks and resulted in costly medical bills. PATIENT SEEKING COMPENSATORY AND PUNITIVE DAMAGES
In the lawsuit, the patient alleges that a physician at the Narconon Arrowhead clinic ordered him to be weaned off his prescription medications after having only one 20-minute interview with him. The patient claims that he was then left largely unsupervised by clinic staff members and was never questioned about experiencing any withdrawal symptoms. As a result of his suicide attempt, the patient is seeking compensation from the drug rehab center for his medical bills and incidental costs, as well as punitive damages based on his Oklahoma medical malpractice lawsuit. The same drug rehab center has been named as a defendant in a recent wrongful death lawsuit as well, in which a patient in the clinic’s care died because of an alleged failure to provide proper medical treatment. Narconon Arrowhead has also been linked to the death of two other rehab patients.

When a physician or hospital staff member fails to provide patients with a proper standard of care, or is negligent in his or her duties to patients, injured patients can file a claim of medical malpractice against the allegedly negligent party, in this case, the treatment center. Some medical malpractice complaints are brought when a patient is injured because of delayed care, because of an emergency room mistake, or because of a medication error. Under these circumstances, an injured patient may be able to pursue compensation for the resulting injuries and losses, including damages for medical expenses, loss of income due to missed time at work, long-term care and permanent disability.
