NEGLIGENT DRIVER MAY HAVE CAUSED FATAL COLLISION
According to the accident report, 41-year-old Jeremy Mezzell of Stillwater, OK was driving on Oklahoma 33 near Cushing, when he was struck by a vehicle that was trying to turn left onto Oklahoma 108. Troopers who responded to the scene of the motorcycle accident say that Mezzell was thrown approximately 25 feet from his motorcycle following the collision with the passenger car. Authorities reported that Mezzell was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident from head and internal injuries, while the driver of the passenger car suffered no injuries in the fatal crash.
MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT INJURIES AND DEATHS
Motorcycle accidents occur far too often in Oklahoma and throughout the United States, and these collisions often prove deadly for the motorcyclist, given the small profile of motorcycles and the limited protection they provide riders. In fact, statistics show that motorcycles are involved in fatal crashes at an alarming rate of 35 per 100 million miles traveled, compared to a rate of only 1.7 per 100 million miles of travel for passenger cars. In 2006, motorcyclists were 35 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a crash, per vehicle mile traveled, and eight times more likely to be injured.
