School buses may be an afterthought to many of us, but the fact of the matter is that parents all over Oklahoma City place an enormous amount of trust in bus drivers and the buses themselves twice every day as their children are transported to and from school. While most of these trips go off without a hitch, when something does go wrong, the situation can instantly turn into a disaster and require the immediate help of experienced Oklahoma bus accident lawyers. Last week, an Oklahoma City school bus accident took place, and six students who were riding on the bus at the time were injured in the crash.
SERIOUS OKLAHOMA SCHOOL BUS ACCIDENT
This Oklahoma City school bus crash occurred on Wednesday at approximately 8 a.m. at SW 44 and Council Road. The school bus had been moving in a northbound direction on Council Road and was stopped in a left turn lane as it waited to make a turn onto SW 44. As it waited, the bus was rear-ended by the driver of a pickup truck. As a result of the crash, six students were transported to the hospital for treatment. Fortunately, no one appeared to be critically injured. The driver of the pickup truck worked as a classroom teaching assistant at Western Heights Middle School, which is where the students on the bus attend school. She was cited at the scene.
There are different ways in which liability can attach in the aftermath of an Oklahoma school bus accident. First, if the bus driver was at fault for the accident, parents of minors who are injured can obtain the help of Oklahoma personal injury lawyers and pursue a legal claim against the driver, the school bus company and perhaps the school district depending on the specific nature of the relationship between the busing company and the district. However, additional steps must be taken any time a public entity is accused of negligence.
LAWYERS FOR BUS ACCIDENTS IN OKLAHOMA CITY
However, this Oklahoma City bus accident represents a different scenario, and one that would apply to many other Oklahoma car accidents. If the driver of a private vehicle is at fault for a crash, the parents of the minors who were injured could file Oklahoma personal injury lawsuits against that driver much as they would had their children been hit while riding in a private vehicle. The driver of that private vehicle at fault would then have to act as a defendant in these cases.
